I purchased a painting by Winona Hendricks from an art dealer(Richard Rennie?)in Durban during the 1970's. The dealer told me she was American but was studying art under someone near Durban. We love the painting which depicts a garden wall under large trees.

Nonie and I met when we were both around 10. We shared the same birthday - September 1 and we sometimes talked about going to Holland (Netherlands) together. Wish we had stayed close through school and after.

Nonie passed away in 2002 or 2003 from throat cancer. I saw her when we were in our 30s. She had been living in Africa and was an artist, having returned to New Jersey.

She was a free spirit and a beautiful, graceful girl. I can still see those big doe eyes. She was brave to have a baby in high school and unquestionably a non-conformist. That appealed to me. I will remember her always.
