Nonie passed away in 2002 or 2003 from throat cancer. I saw her when we were in our 30s. She had been living in Africa and was an artist, having returned to New Jersey.
She was a free spirit and a beautiful, graceful girl. I can still see those big doe eyes. She was brave to have a baby in high school and unquestionably a non-conformist. That appealed to me. I will remember her always.
